Located within the Witbank coalfields of Mpumalanga—one of South Africa’s most established coal-producing regions—the colliery is positioned within a mature mining and industrial corridor supported by established infrastructure and regional logistics networks.

Positioned approximately 12 kilometres outside Witbank, the colliery occupies over 1 000 hectares of strategically located coal-bearing land, providing access to key transport routes, industrial hubs, and broader supply chain infrastructure within the region.

With a mining history in the area dating back several decades, South Witbank Colliery forms part of a well-established coal-producing landscape that continues to play an important role within South Africa’s industrial and energy sectors.
